Guys I am a horrible blogger, and will freely admit it! But nonetheless lets get started with some awesomeness of the new (and last) season!

Yes it's true, this is my last marching season for I am a Senior. God, that's actually really scary, I'm a Senior now. Just a little insight to what is currently happening...I'm shuddering from horror that I'm in charge. Anyway school started August 11 for us, but as this is a band blog it truly started back on June 8th. At least with my band we start the second week of Summer Vacation. Of course we didn't actually start learning our charts till Band Camp, but we did get our music memorized and everything before that! Next week we have our first Home Football Game/Performance, then on Saturday we leave for Rosemont MN, a BOA competition. Fun stuff right!? WRONG! We still have yet to learn the ending to our show, charts 59-72 I believe. Ugh! Shuddering again! Anyway here's a little peek into our show. It's only the ending, but by September 18th I should have the actual performance of well humans. You'll understand when you watch the video!

MW 14 Part 3 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh82Oj5pl1I

So what do you think!? Oh and just so you know, when the show hits 2:10 it's still not up to tempo. The tempo its playing at is actually 170, and it needs to be around 196. Scary stuff right? Plus from 1:54-1:58 on our charts it say "DO NOT MISS-WILL GET INJURED IF YOU MISS". All of our reactions were pretty much this.

Haha! Get my point? Anyway sorry for not posting in forever, and I'll give you my little "I'm going to do better" schpeel later!

P.S. This video was created for the end of the year review for our band. Check it out! Some of these people took amazing photos!

Can I just admit to you guys that my skills of keeping up with this blog, utterly suck. Never mind my persistence, onto the things that are important. So to update you on all that has occurred, you're going to need to keep on reading!

A like last year I created a video dedicating it to that years marching season. So I decided to make another one just for all my band roadies! Here is the link, hope you enjoy it! It is a seven minute video, but take the time to watch it all...its actually really nice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkF2iQRDMAo

Onto other things, the school musical! I auditioned on my violin (yes I know I am a traitor) and got a spot in the pit orchestra with some fellow musicians. Our rehearsals have been something of indifferent. They're extremely funny, and they bring us all together/closer as friends. The director of the pit, is one of the band directors. Last week he made "fake twitter" posts about each section. For those in orchestra, you'll understand the photo below. Anyway for those of you who aren't stringers, it pretty much means... "Oh hey, yeah you have to go up another three octaves. Play those notes that everyone hates anyway". That would be the meaning of the photo. But all together the director made a photo for himself on a background of spongebob saying "For Ralph Burns!", it's an inside joke that goes off last years musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Now that I think about it, I haven't told you want our performance is this year! We are in production of Hairspray, the Musical. Fun, right!? To be honest, there are a lot of jokes/sayings in this show that could be interpreted as a bit much for a high school production. But lets be serious, if Millard North could put on a production of RENT, then we shouldn't have a problem.
Hope your holiday's were as great as mine. Anyway wow October 6th was my last entry....October 6th!! I'm a horrible blogger, as you can tell. But nonetheless I've come here to fill you in everything music in my life.

To start off with I should finish the marching season...our band won Third Place, again. The scores for the first three places went like this.
1st - Bellevue East -SCORE- 79.3
2nd - Bellevue West -SCORE- 78.3
3rd - Millard West (ME) -SCORE- 77.9

Did you guys see that! We were .4 freaking points away from second place! Oh it ticked us off so much, but in the end we knew that our show was an emotional flight of music. Plus in the Omaha Herald (cities newspaper) it stated a well written piece about our show. Here is just a bit from it.

"Millard West delivered an emotional crowd-pleaser titled “Imagine If” that delivered an urgent plea for peace. Kim Meradith, who was in the stands supporting her son in a different band, said the show moved her to tears. “It's not my school, but every time I watch it I start to cry,” Meradith said. Her son, Tyler, is a senior bass drum player in the Papillion-La Vista South band."

This made me cry so freaking hard you have no idea. Plus they only knew a small bit of how emotional our show was to us students. For our State performance we all were given at least a name of hundreds of thousands children lost to a school shooting. Some of us took it upon ourselves to gather our own names of children. Each uniform has a pocket on the inside of our bib next to our heart, that's were we kept all our names. We played for them, for their families, for their schools...we played to tell them that the urgent plea for peace has finally come, that peace is here...in our hearts. Now that I've told you this I want you to watch our show...and really take in the emotional outcry we had. However the quality of the show is horrendous given the poor video taping of my best friends father's camera phone. But you still get the full effect of the music.

Here is the show.
Oh my gosh I haven't written in FOREVER and it is my fault along with bands...haha! Anyway I have so much to tell you all!

Band season started awhile back for my band and I. Our first competition was in Chicago IL, and wow! We were performing with five B.O.A bands / Bands of America Champions! It was nuts!! And God weren't they amazing! Anyway that competition consisted of prelims and finals. We made 3rd place in our division and also made it to finals. Ten bands only moved on to finals (28 in total), after all of those performances we won 7th place overall, and you know what...I am totally loving that score! Because the Bands of America bands placed in the first five (what a coincidence) which left only one other spot ahead of us! Pretty dang good I must say!

Okay so after Chicago we hosted our own competition, the Wildcat Classic. Great work was shown there and well a very painful sunburn later on for me! Anyway Bellevue East one first, so congrats to them. Moving on, we then traveled to Bellevue East's competition and performed. We won 1st in prelims as well as finals, and took home all captions! Wonderful job to our band plus the others! I personally attended the prelims performance. After that well I had an attack. Pretty much what happened was, was that I had received (unwillingly) a severe pain throughout my upper stomach and back. Ugly crying was shown as well as my not so pretty painful face. And to keep in good health Mr. Keith sent me home on his orders so I did not compete that for finals. Just cheered for them from a distance!

Well after the "threats" to not have me on the field and all because of my pain I finally got results back of what was causing it, and well I have Gallstones. Uncommon to Teens and young adults, but yeah I'm a "special one" apparently. Lol! However I can continue the marching season so long as I don't have an attack on the field...so pray for me not to!

Okay okay okay, getting on with this EXTREMELY long post. I just returned from our most recent competition in Sioux Falls South Dakota's Festival of Bands. We attended the competition last year and received 4th place as well as Best Drum Majors. This year was a completely different story! For our prelims performance we blew away the crowd and judges! When it came time for awards we were placed first in our division, and ahead of the band who normally wins everything. And so we made finals and performed once again, blowing away the crowd even more with how much emotion we had packed into our show! That and we just wanted to keep moving cause it was FREZING (40 degree's plus snow!)!!! Anyway after our performance we watched Marshall (the band that wasn't to happy with us) and our host bands (the hosts performed in exhibition). All were really good but I was to nervous about where we would place! So then comes the listing of placements. They got all the way up to fourth place then stopped to announce caption awards. We won three out of the five given. Best Color Guard, Best Horn Line, & Best Drum Majors. Anyway they continued and well Marshall won fourth place (this is the band that normally wins EVERYTHING!), so they kept going and announced our band as First Place!!! First Place!!!!! We were estatic and Mr. Keith plus Mr. Bogatz were in tears! It wasn't even state and they were in tears! It was great and all of us were so proud! God, it was a great show. Now you here comes where you guys get to watch attentively to our show. I want to know what you guys think and what you all believe the message spreads!

(that was a long paragraph!) Anyway it is late and well time for me to get some "shut-eye" because I have early morning rehearsal tomorrow! Love you all and enjoy the show! (you'll love it when we die!)
I am really bad at trying to keep up with this blog! I'M SORRY!!! Oh well, I think you guys will like what I have to share. For the past two months my band has been working on our show, which by the way is pretty damn good! This is the "old" version of our show, it doesn't include the AMAZING drum break...but that's because we technically didn't have the percussion part till about 3 weeks ago! Anyway this is most of the show music.
http://www.fitzpatrickmusic.net/imagine.php (( just press play ))

But since last Monday we've officially made it through the opener of our show and started putting music to it as well! Mike, one of the great guys that comes and helps out our band video taped us on our first music & marching rehearsal. We stop earlier however and don't finish the complete opener. HOWEVER, he filmed us yesterday when we did complete the full opener...he just has to upload the footage! But without further adieu, this is part of my marching show for 2013.

The Millard West Wildcat Marching Band is proud to present....
Okay guys thanks to my bands First Snare Drummer Christian Yost, we now have the field version of our show! And actually it's really cool to see what goes on in the middle/beginning/end of a marching show.
And I am not at all happy about it. My band as you previously saw in other posts is a traditional band, one that holds music and it's musicians above any recordings and set designs. And I don't mean to be rude if your band does that, however I think that Marching band is meant for the students and the music they play...not the previously recorded quotes and odd backgrounds.

But this year we are changing it up a bit. We are going from traditional to BOA (more theatrical). We were able to listen to our music arrangement and it sounds awesome! I love it, however we've got the recorded quotes playing and we will be having back drops and I just don't know how much I will actually like it.

However, just for you I'll be giving an inside look. The show itself is called "Imagine if..." it's based off of the school shootings including Columbine, Millard South, and Sandy Hook. Yes it is a really depressing subject to be creating a Marching Band show off of, but it's touching in it's own manner. To make it "heartfelt" as Mr. Keith and Mr. Bogatz keep describing it our songs include those from John Lennon, Coldplay, a song from Batman Begins, and Inception. So like I said, I am excited for the musical arrangement of the show just not entirely the show itself.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h5JTdafu1c just without the singing... xD)
Wow... January 28 was my last post to you guys! I feel so lazy now, so go ahead spam the comments yelling at me for not being on top of my business. At the very least it lets me know that somebody is reading my blog.

Oh well, now to give you the "low-down" on what I've been up to. I just finished my Orchestra Concert last week! A lot of fun, but still extremely long. Maybe before the next concert we should try getting Mrs. Ritchie to keep the song list at a maximum three song requirement per group. Ha! But we had an amazing solo violinist named Nadia who performed the Violin Concerto perfectly! By the end of the 12 minute song people were in tears and she got a well deserved standing ovation. So good for you Nadia!

Band wise, we finished scale tests and are preparing for our concert in two weeks. We have some very moving songs that we're performing. "I am" is a song that a music director wrote for one of his students. The student had a warm heart from what the director said, and always came with a smile across her face. However after she passed from a car accident he wrote this song, trying to depict the actual accident with "Words of Music". In my honest opinion he did a miraculous job in doing so. But that is only one of four songs we're performing! Then comes the Wind Ensemble and Freshmen Band. So it will be a great time.

Now I have to get ready for boot camp (stupid workout session I do with my family) so as always...
Well for me it's the debate of making Marching Band a P.E class in my school district. We've tried this before, and they've declined saying we weren't doing enough to make it a P.E class...so we proved them wrong this time. During my marching season this year, we ran laps around the track before we started rehearsal for EVERY rehearsal. Also we marched long periods of time, and worked for many hours, days, weeks, and months. The normal P.E class here is an hour and a half long, so if you add that together in the total for the week it adds up to about 450 minuets. As for the band, it's again an hour and a half class period....but thats not counting the rest of our rehearsals.
-Class (1 1/2 hrs) *5 days -Rehearsal (2 1/2 hrs) *4 days -Sectionals (30 min.) *5 days.
In total it rounds up to around 1,200 mineuts of marching, excersizing, and playing music. TAKE THAT SCHOOL BOARD!

Now tell me if you think your school should turn Marching into a sport!?!
I'm on top of the world, and so are you. Know this was a part of our Season's Marching DVD that we all got. It's our band's song, cause it inspire's you...doesn't it? Anyway I hope it becomes your new favorite song as well.

Anything knew with ya'll? Well for me, I've got pit try-outs this coming Monday and Tuesday. I'm trying out for not only my band instrument (which I've mentioned before), but I'm also trying out on my orchestral string instrument. Only thing that I'm worried about is that I have to know all of my Major scales (double octave), a Full Range Chromatic, and the musical piece all by memory. So wish me luck on these day's! And if you have a pit-orchestra at your school, I fully recommend that you try-out! It may not be harder than mine, and maybe it's like 1,000 times harder...but it's still worth trying out. It's a great expierence and a great thing too put on your resume for college. Anyway I have to go...it's late here, so good night band geeks!
Not many bands do...and some of them go the extra mile to tell their school that the opression needs to end and that Music needs to be welcomed just as much as sports. But than there are those pranks that us band kids do just for the fun of it.
If not, well you're truly missing out. Disney hired the best of the best to create his scores and nothing can compare. Take the "Bear Necessities" from the "Jungle Book". It's got the best Jazz music in it, just close your eyes and imagine the old band setting. Plus it isn't just jazz, Walt used of course a normal orchestra to create background music for the movies, but again...really amazing music. Now take some time out of your not so busy day and just look up some Original Disney scores, you wont be disapointed.
Of course we have! Just not in forever, that is of course my fault! Anyway, Today was my last day of Winter break, and it is so depressing to see it go...I DON'T WAN'T TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!! Well, okay let me rephrase....I don't mind going back for first block (that's band and orchestra for me), the rest of the day however I do not wan't to be there for! But, oh well....we're minors, we have to follow what the ELDERLY (he he) say.

So how was your guy's Winter breaks? How was the holiday season for ya'll? For me, it wen't really well! I got my Band Photographs from not only this year, but also last year. Since they never sent them to us last year...ha ha! And before my family opened presents on Christmas, my little brother and myself performed three songs by surprise for our parents. He played his violin to the song of "Oh Christmas Tree", I played on my violin (yes I am a violinist as well....) "Deck the halls", then he took out his bell set and I took out my trumpet and we played "We wish you a merry Christmas" together. Oddly it brought my mother to tears. But you know what, it was cute and it was sort of a present to them.

But, I should probably go, cause school starts at 8:00am tomorrow, and I am exhausted from boot camp today (intensive workout program that I'm being forced to do, to get me in shape for marching season....wonderful).
Wow I know it's been some time since I last posted on here. But lately I've been stuck trying to study and at least getting a passing grade in my classes before Christmas Break comes. Which is this Friday might I add! Super excited for the break, not so much for the finals and tests and projects. GRRR!!!! Just have to love school don't ya?

Anyway, after Christmas break I get a totally new schedule....just so you have an idea.

Block 1: Band/Orchestra
Block 2: Honors English
Block 3: Honors Geometry
Block 4: AP World History

Now that you have an idea of what I get to endure for the rest of the year...you should all wish me luck. LoL I'm totally kidding but a good luck would be welcomed. Alright so as I said earlier I get out this Friday the 21st, then I get to go back to school the 7th of Jan. I wish we could have a longer Winter break, it just seems fair doesn't it? I mean we work our butts off to finish school work, study for exams and quizes, try not to fail each class, and be involved with extra circcular activities like Marching band, Jazz Band, Symphony Orchestra, and even the occasional Pep Band! We have to take extra time out of our days to accomplish all of that plus study, and do homework. Us Band geeks live such a hard life don't we?

Alright I have to scadaddle (new word that my section is using to say gotta run) I've got plenty of Homework and Studying I have to do myself. So I'll post later Band Geeks!

So yeah it explains it pretty well right? Anyway all those pictures except the "What my mom thinks I do & the What my boss thinks I do" are pictures from my trip in New York City and Philadelphia. A trip worth while taking, in my opinion! And I just found out on Friday that I get to take an Orchestra trip to St. Louis MI, and then down to somewhere in Kentucky. Less than a $1,000 dollars so I wont be totally broke after this trip like I was on the band one! Anyway I made that picture just for you guys. Hope you like it!

Tonight is the night, our first concert season well concert! The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band will be performing three songs each (in total 9 songs, plus our PHI/NYC parade tune). Of course all these songs have to deal with Christmas...or if you don't celebrate Christmas, the December holidays! It should be a really good concert and all of us are extremely excited!
Another nice thing is that we get to pull out our knee high black socks, wicking shirts, and marching shoes again before we wear our uniforms! Missed that thing so much.

Anyway I have to go get ready for the concert, I know I know short post this time but don't worry I'll have tons to tell you tomorrow!
Got to see cool sights and hear awesome street music. But it's all in the past now, we are all back to normal schedule and still trying to get caught up with our homework assingments. It's just been pretty nuts. Anyway in my "What's new band geeks?" post I asked ya'll some interesting questions, and finally I have gotten to over 30 replies back (sadly all private) so I won't be posting names or ID's or even answers...but it was still so cool to get your replies! And as promised I will post my answers to the questions here for ya'll to see!
Wow, Philly and New York City was a blast! I can assure you that we had the best of time there. I've got tons of pictures to show you guys, and just a ton of info to let out!

First of all, here was my room for the trip.

Second of all this was the bands full picture before we went out to perform in the Philadelphia parade.

Third of all here was the video of our band performing incase you weren't able to see it on Thanksgiving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PynlnyhRkaE

And since the sound cut out on us....(really ticked off our families back home) I found the audio to it as well....just the video is pretty crappy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kAFsTunZQw

Fourth of all I found another really awesome video of one of my Band Directors, his Wife, my friends and I dancing to "Cupid Shuffle" with the Salvation Army band members.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ck7z4f_cm4

Fifth of all, geez I'm dragging this on.... :P

Sixth of all I'm sorry I wasn't able to put anything on the blog while I was away but I had no internet, and no offense to ya'll but I wasn't going to use my 3G on my Iphone to post up a blog. :)
Anyway now you've seen my room mates, my band performing, my Band Director dancing, and a few more pictures coming up about.....NOW!

And the one thing I don't know is if YOU have the same feelings and involvement.

1. What's the name of your band?
2. What's your instrument? And if you have a name for it, what is it?
6 DAYS LEFT!!!Band Geekhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01615866795011655650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7825271800534820489.post-11611684123830251002012-11-13T15:32:00.000-08:002012-11-13T15:32:15.617-08:00The talk.THE TALK! It has arrived and been answered! Of course, your all probably thinking about the "birds and the bee's" talk, and I'm talking about the non band member saying that marching band isn't all that hard. So first of all stop thinking of the birds and the bee's and FOCUS! Here is the story of third block, where a junior thought he could tell me that marching band wasn't that hard.

It was the middle of third block and our teacher was in the back reading a book, while the rest of us were supposed to be watching a video. I took out my parade music and started to tap the beat lightly on the table. Jarrod, the junior who sat next to me for that class glanced over and asked what I was doing. I replied with a "memorizing music". He scoffed and kinda did the eye roll towards my general direction. He said to me "What for marching band? You've got to be kidding me. You're taking extra time to work on something that is as simple as breathing?" I raised my eye brows in his direction and replied with a "As simple as breathing, huh. Alright Jarrod, lets see if this is easy for you. Tap the rythm on the desk." I pushed the sheet music pages towards him and waited for him to start. He kinda stared at the sheet music blankly like (of course) he was reading an alien language. He pushed it back saying, so what it's easy enough and so is all that walking you do on the field during half time". I bit my cheeks after that sassy remark. "If it's "so easy" lets see you do it. I'll give you my charts now, you study them through the next block, then meet me out on the practice field after school". School ended and I waited five minuets at the practice field and scoffed when I saw him actually walking towards me. "So you decided to prove me wrong"? He nodded and kept looking at the charts then back at me. I motioned towards the field and walked onto the 50 yard line. "You're first Buck-o". I stepped off and watched/laughed my butt off, while I watched a kid who knew nothing about music try to march. So in the end, if you ever hear someone tell you that Marching Band or just band in general is easy, take them to the field and have them march. Then we'll see who's boss!

The End,
Band Geek.

What....? You guys didn't realize that was totally made up? Ha ha! I'm kidding, a lot of it was made up yes, but the point of it wasn't. Some kid in my third block class (his name isn't Jarrod) told me that band/marching band wasn't hard, and I proved him wrong. Just make sure when you prove them wrong, not to totally go all Band Camp on them! Ha ha! So yeah, I have to go anyway though guys, meeting tonight for a totally different subject than band (for once!).
Guess where I was at all day? Yup in Grand Island, NE (or as we put it, the middle of NO WHERE!). Anyway we were there for a pep band gig for the State Volleyball competition. And well we had to leave the school around oh....the nice and early 5 FREAKING AM!!! Yup...5am people's, try having to do that, and on a Friday too!

Gahh anyway, when we were in the first quarter or whatever of the game, none of the students that came (which all of us band kids new just came to get out of school) would cheer for the volleyball players or even bother to look up from their food/phones. So us band kids took it upon ourselves to not only cheer for our team, put to say cheers, and to also play! Oh and just so you know this too, we had a group of cheerleaders (not varsity) there and they just stood around doing nothing, no cheers, no peppy spirit....just stood there. GRR!!! But yeah these are the two cheers we screamed the most...

"GO BIG GREEN!" -tied to the Nebraska Cornhusker cheer "GO BIG RED!". &
"Hey all you Wildcat fans,
lemme see you clap your hands!
*clap*
Now that you got the beat,
lemme see you stomp your feet!
*stomp*
Now that you got the grove,
lemme see your body move
*dance* Arugah, Ah, Ah, Arugah, Ah, Ah,
That's it!
*stop abruptly*" -used mostly from the band members during competitions, but also used during some football games from the Wildcat Crazies.

So yeah, it's been a pretty fun day. And it gets better too! I have a trumpet party tonight in about 30 min, that I get to go to...so yeah! Oh and just so you know, we wont burn anything down, but there are no promises about breaking something "accidently"!
Don't know? Well it would be my old band Southridge. This was their Calvacade performance, and to me I think they did really well. And yes I know you guys are going to think "But Band Geek they have this problem...or that problem..." but hey, you know what...all of us have problems with our bands, trust me I know (hence the Sioux Falls competition). But you know what, you can only watch the video and enjoy it. None of that annoying "troll" crap on here. But without further adou, I present to you the Southridge Marching Band!!!!
